1. Beginning of the day
The day starts early in Rishikesh, with the sun rising over the mountains and casting a golden glow over the Ganges river. I woke up feeling refreshed and energized, eager to begin my kayaking adventure.
2. Fueling myself
After a quick breakfast in the cafe close to the place I stayed, I head downstairs to the exit where my equipment and guides were waiting for me in a 4x4 car which took me to the starting point of white water kayaking. The first thing that strikes me was the beauty of the surroundings. The river was surrounded by lush green forests, towering mountains, and the occasional glimpse of a temple or ashram.
3. Training and practice
Before we begin the white-water section of the river, we spent some time briefing about gear, stretching our bodies, and practicing paddling our skills in calmer waters.
4. Kayak maneuvering
My guide took me through some basic maneuvers and techniques, taught me how to control my kayak, and navigate through different types of rapids. We also practiced eddy turns, eskimo roll, all of which are essential skills for white-water kayaking.
5. Main water section
After a few hours of training, we head towards the more challenging section of the river. My guide reminds me of the safety procedures, and we discussed the route we will be taking. I was feeling the increase in my we approached the first rapid.
6. Class II to class III rapids
The white-water section of the river was exhilarating, with rapids ranging from class II to class III. The water was fast and choppy with the power of the river beneath me as I navigate through the rapids. Also, the adrenaline rush was intense for me.
7. Navigation
As we progress through the rapids, my guide gave me instructions on where to paddle and how to navigate through the different obstacles. We communicate effectively, and I felt safe and confident under his guidance. The scenery around us was breathtaking, with towering mountains and forests on either side of the river.
8. Final paddle
After a few hours of intense white-water kayaking, we reached the end of the route. I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride as I take in the beauty of the surroundings. We paddle to the shore, where we took a break and enjoyed some snacks & refreshments.
9. Back to the hotel
We packed our equipment and head back to the hotel, I was filled with a sense of satisfaction and gratitude. White-water kayaking in Rishikesh was an experience like no other, and I feel privileged to have been able to explore this beautiful part of the world.
10. Day end
I was tired but exhilarated after a day of white-water kayaking. I took a shower and relaxed myself for a while before heading out for dinner at a local restaurant by the Ganges.
