Raj Shah is the founder and director of Encore Recycling. He grew up in Kolkata, studied in the United Kingdom and is currently based in Singapore. Raj tries to go diving atleast once every year. He also dreams of starting his own dive school some day.

AP: What got you first interested in diving?
Raj: My love for water.
AP: How did you start off? Your first experience.
Raj: I did a few fun dives. I loved the feeling every time. Soon after I decided to do my open water licence.
AP: Who do you usually go diving with?
Raj: Alone.
AP: What changed in your life after you got into it?
Raj: My interest and knowledge of marine life, underwater ecosystems and the larger environmental impact of food chain
AP: What are some of your favourite moments while diving?
Raj: Hearing my own breath underwater. Feels meditative.
AP: Any good stories to share?
Raj: Having a 12 metre whale shark swim over me, best experience ever. Brought perspective.
AP: Till when do you see yourself play the sport?
Raj: Forever. Or until I cover all dive spots on my list.
AP: What would be some advice you’d give someone who’s just starting out?
Raj: Do your research, start with fun dives.
